Spa and Hot Tubs Maintenance
Why Hot Tub Maintenance Matters
A well-maintained hot tub not only lasts longer but also provides a safer, more enjoyable experience. Regular care keeps your water crystal clear, prevents costly repairs, and protects your investment.
Weekly Maintenance Tips
1. Test Water Chemistry
Use test strips or a digital tester to check pH, alkalinity, and sanitizer levels (chlorine, bromine, or salt). Ideal pH should be between 7.2 and 7.8.
2. Adjust Chemical Levels
Add balancers as needed:
pH increaser/decreaser
Alkalinity booster
Sanitizers to kill bacteria
Shock oxidizer weekly to remove organic contaminants
3. Clean the Waterline
Wipe the waterline with a non-abrasive cloth to remove oils and residue.
4. Check for Foam and Odors
If you notice foam or strange smells, it’s time to shock the water or add an anti-foam product.
Monthly and Seasonal Maintenance
1. Clean or Replace Filters
Remove filters once a month, rinse with clean water, and soak in a filter cleaner every 2–3 months. Replace them every 12–18 months.
2. Drain and Refill the Spa
Drain your hot tub every 3–4 months to prevent buildup of dissolved solids. Clean the interior shell before refilling.
3. Inspect the Cover
Clean and condition your spa cover regularly to prevent mold and cracking. A tight-fitting, clean cover also improves energy efficiency.
Extra Tips for Long-Term Care
Keep water circulating with scheduled filtration cycles
Maintain proper water level
Avoid lotions and oils before using the spa
Store chemicals properly in a dry, cool space
Consider a water softener if you have hard water
